Biography

Dr. Domenico Santoro graduated with honor in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Naples “Federico II” in 2001. In 2006 he completed his Research Doctorate (DrSc) in Veterinary Internal Medicine (dermatology – major) at the same University. In 2007 he completed an Internship in Veterinary Dermatology at the North Carolina State University. In 2010 he obtained the status of Diplomate in both the European and the American College of Veterinary Dermatology (ECVD and ACVD). In the same year (2010) he completed a Master in Veterinary Clinical Sciences (dermatology - major) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign). From 2010 to 2013 he was Visiting Clinical Instructor at the same University while working on his PhD in Veterinary Clinical Sciences (immunology - major), completed in 2013. The following year (2013- 2014) he was a post-doctoral associate in comparative dermatology at the University of Florida – College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Santoro is currently an Assistant Professor in Dermatology at the University of Florida – College of Veterinary Medicine. In 2017, Dr Santoro obtained the status of Diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists (ACVM - Bacteriology/Mycology/Immunology). His main research interest is the immunopathogenesis and treatment of canine atopic dermatitis and canine leishmaniasis and in particular the evaluation of antimicrobial peptides and host-microbe interaction in dogs.
